WetCal

Hourly weather, next to your plans.

It started with trying to plan a picnic.

First, compare calendars with friends. Find a couple of evenings when everyone is free. Then switch to a weather app to work out which one is worth planning around.

This was a frustration I kept coming back to. A day marked as rainy might have showers in the morning and sunshine by late afternoon. The daily summary didn’t tell me what the weather would be like when we were free.

The forecast belongs in the calendar.

WetCal puts hourly weather beside calendar events. You can see when you’re free and what the weather should be doing at the same time.

WetCal’s weekly calendar with hourly weather alongside events. Wednesday’s rainy daily summary is followed by sunshine in the late afternoon.

Weather by the hour.

Hourly conditions sit beside each day’s events, so a rainy-day icon doesn’t hide a sunny afternoon.

WetCal brings in calendars already on the Mac, including iCloud and Google.

A working Mac app.

I took WetCal from an idea to a working Mac app, now available as a preview.

The picnic was the starting point. The same question comes up before a walk, lunch outside or an evening with friends. When do free time and good weather line up?

Designing it myself, building with AI.

I developed the concept and designed the app myself, then directed AI to help build it. This helped me ship quickly and keep the product lightweight.

It was a chance to experiment with AI while staying responsible for the product direction and design.
